Technical Specifications and Hardware Design

This high speed counter module supports the GE Series Six PLC platform. The GE IC610MDL110A accurately counts rapid input pulses from encoders or sensors. You can rely on this module for precision motion monitoring applications. Its compact design fits directly into a standard Series Six I/O rack. The module weighs approximately 0.8 kilograms. Its dimensions measure 28 cm in height, 3 cm in width, and 15 cm in depth.

Connectivity and Signal Processing

You connect external encoders to the module via a front-panel terminal block. Each of the two channels accepts A and B quadrature signals. The module also accepts a separate gate input for each channel. This gate input enables or disables counting on demand. You can configure the counter for up/down or directional counting modes. The unit draws all operating power from the Series Six backplane. Consequently, it requires no external power supply or batteries.

Installation and Operational Parameters

You must insert this module into any available I/O slot in the main rack. The backplane provides both 5V and 24V DC power to the board. The module stores no count data when you remove system power. Therefore, you should save critical counts to the CPU memory periodically. The counting logic operates independently from the PLC scan cycle. This independence ensures you never miss a single input pulse. The GE IC610MDL110A works best with quadrature encoders or high-speed proximity switches.
