Signal Termination Design
The Schneider 690MCB10100 routes signals from the ribbon cable to terminal blocks. Its four ceramic capacitors filter noise on each encoder input channel. Additionally, the board includes pull-up resistors for open-collector outputs. You get clean signal conditioning without external components.
Energy Storage Components
Four ceramic capacitors per encoder channel filter high-frequency noise. Each capacitor mounts as close as possible to its input pin. This layout minimizes noise pickup from adjacent industrial equipment. The capacitors also protect the controller from electrostatic discharge. Consequently, encoder feedback remains accurate in noisy environments.
Installation Steps
Mount this breakout module on DIN rail or a flat panel surface. Secure the module using the two integrated mounting tabs with M4 screws. Connect the 36-pin ribbon cable to the motion controller’s encoder port. Then route each field wire to its assigned terminal position. Tighten each terminal screw to 0.4 Nm of torque.
Terminal Assignments
Terminals 1 through 4 handle encoder A and B differential signals.
LED Status Indication
A green LED illuminates when the module receives 5V from the ribbon cable. Separate yellow LEDs indicate the state of each digital output channel. The encoder input channels do not have individual status LEDs. Use the motion controller’s software to verify encoder signals. The Schneider 690MCB10100 provides no onboard fault diagnostics.
Wiring Recommendations
Use twisted shielded cable for all encoder and high-speed inputs. Connect the shield drain wire to the terminal labeled SHIELD. Keep encoder wiring separate from AC power cables by at least 30 cm. For digital outputs, use 18 AWG wire to minimize voltage drop. Label each wire at both ends for future maintenance reference.
Application Scope
This breakout module works with Modicon M340 and Premium motion controllers. Many packaging machines use the Schneider 690MCB10100 for servo drive interfacing. Its compact size fits inside crowded control cabinets with limited space.
