Forward Converter Design
The GE DS200GDPAG1A DS200GDPAG1ALF uses a single transistor forward converter with reset winding. Its four bulk capacitors filter the input DC bus for stable operation. Additionally, a magnetic amplifier regulates the main output for tight tolerance. You get excellent cross-regulation even with unbalanced loads.
Energy Storage Array
Four bulk capacitors store sufficient energy for 25 ms of hold-up time. This keeps outputs alive during AC line dropouts or transfer switching. Fourteen ceramic capacitors provide local decoupling throughout the board. They reside close to each IC and output rectifier for maximum effectiveness. Clean power ensures reliable gate drive under all operating conditions.
Output Characteristics
Each output provides an isolated 24V DC supply for external gate drivers. The board does not regulate individual outputs against load variations. However, all outputs track within 10% of each other under any load. For tighter regulation, add an external post-regulator on critical channels. The non-regulated design reduces component count and improves reliability.
Installation Steps
Insert this power board into a Mark V slot with 40-pin backplane connection. Align the GE DS200GDPAG1A DS200GDPAG1ALF with its plastic card guides. Push forward steadily until the backplane connector locks into place. Then tighten the two front panel screws for vibration resistance. Connect the output cable to the gate driver distribution board.
Input Protection
The input circuit includes a fuse and reverse polarity protection diode. A blown fuse requires board replacement as it is not field-repairable. The reverse diode prevents damage from accidentally reversed DC connections. Always verify input polarity using a voltmeter before insertion. Positive goes to pin A1, negative to pin A2 on the backplane.
Thermal Management
This board operates without a fan in ambient temperatures up to 55°C. Above this temperature, derate the total output power by 5% per °C. The maximum case temperature at any point should not exceed 85°C. A thermal shutdown circuit disables the converter at 100°C. The board automatically restarts when temperature drops to 80°C.
Application Notes
Use this high frequency board for powering IGBT gate drivers in inverters. It also suits isolated power for RS-485 repeaters and sensors. Many wind turbine converters use the GE DS200GDPAG1A DS200GDPAG1ALF for tower electronics. Its wide input range accommodates battery-backed DC bus systems.
