Output Configuration and Load Driving
Each of the sixteen outputs uses a high-side transistor configuration. You can connect loads between the output and ground directly. The ABB 07 AB 90-S switches resistive loads like lamps and heaters efficiently. It also handles inductive loads like solenoids and small relays. Each output includes a built-in flyback suppression diode for inductive protection. This diode prevents voltage spikes from damaging the transistor drivers. The module provides a yellow LED for each output individually. This LED illuminates when the controller energizes the corresponding output.
Protection Features and Fault Handling
The module includes short-circuit protection on every output channel. It limits the output current to approximately 0.7 Amps during a fault. The ABB 07 AB 90-S also provides overtemperature protection for the output drivers. The module automatically restores normal operation after removing the fault condition. A red LED flashes when any output detects a short-circuit condition. The module reports fault status back to the CPU via the backplane. All outputs default to a safe OFF state during power loss.
Installation and Operational Guidelines
You must insert this module into any standard Procontic rack slot position. The backplane supplies 5V and 24V DC power to the module automatically. The ABB 07 AB 90-S draws approximately 180 mA from the 5V supply. It draws additional current based on how many outputs energize simultaneously. You should verify the total load current does not exceed 4 Amps. Exceeding this limit will trigger the overcurrent protection circuit. The module requires no external battery for normal operation. You should replace the entire module if any output fails shorted.
