Output Design and Switching

The Schneider ASBDAP 102 uses eight TRIAC solid-state switches for AC load control. Each output includes an internal snubber network for inductive load switching. The TRIAC turns on at zero voltage crossing and turns off at zero current. Consequently, this design reduces electrical noise and extends load contact life.

Performance Characteristics

Each output handles 0.5 Amps of continuous AC current at 120 VAC. The total module load should not exceed 4 Amps across all eight points. Inrush current up to 10 Amps for one cycle will not damage the TRIAC. The OFF-state leakage current of 1.5 mA will not energize most industrial loads.

Response Time and Coordination

The module responds within one-half cycle of the AC line frequency. At 60 Hz, response time equals 8.3 milliseconds maximum. At 50 Hz, response time equals 10 milliseconds maximum. Therefore, this speed works perfectly for machine control and process applications.

Isolation and Noise Immunity

Optical isolators separate each output channel from the logic side. This 2500 VAC rating prevents noise from corrupting the PLC backplane. The internal snubber also reduces radiated EMI from inductive loads. Consequently, you can mount this module near variable frequency drives without interference.

Installation and Wiring

Mount this module in any I/O slot of a TSX Compact rack. The 20-pin removable terminal block accepts wire sizes from 16 to 22 AWG. For best results, use copper conductors rated for 90°C minimum. You should also install external fuses rated at 1 Amp for each output channel.

Visual Status Indication

Eight red LEDs on the front panel show the real-time output status. Each LED illuminates when its corresponding TRIAC receives a turn-on signal. Therefore, technicians can verify output operation without a multimeter. A green LED indicates that the module has backplane power.

Why Choose This Output Module

This solid-state module outperforms relay outputs in high-cycle applications. It has no moving parts, so wear and tear do not exist. Therefore, this unit suits packaging machines, conveyors, and labeling equipment with frequent cycling.
