Internal Architecture and Data Flow

The IEPRA02 contains three main internal components for data processing. One main PCB carries all surface-mount integrated circuits. One 64 KB dual-port RAM chip buffers incoming and outgoing messages. Two UART controllers manage serial communication on each port independently. The ABB Bailey IEPRA02 includes four status LEDs on the front panel. A ribbon cable header connects the module to the backplane bus.

Communication Configuration and Setup

Configure each serial port’s protocol using the onboard DIP switches. Select either RS-232 or RS-485 electrical standards for each port. Set the baud rate from 1200 to 115200 through configuration software. The IEPRA02 supports Modbus RTU master and slave modes. It also handles DNP 3.0 and native Bailey proprietary protocols. The module scans data buffers every 10 milliseconds for real-time response.

Energy Storage and Maintenance Status

The IEPRA02 stores no electrical energy internally. It includes zero batteries or high-value capacitors. Hence, this interface module requires no scheduled battery replacements. You will never lose configuration data due to power failures. The buffer memory loses all temporary data immediately upon power loss.
