Expanding I/O Capacity for Safety Systems

The FC-IO-0002 extends the I/O bus capacity for Honeywell Safety Manager and Experion PKS platforms. This extender module allows users to add up to two additional chassis to the existing system configuration. Consequently, it provides a cost-effective solution for expanding I/O points without replacing the main controller . The module ensures reliable communication between the primary processor and remote I/O assemblies.

Data Transmission and Bus Interface

The FC-IO-0002 transmits all process data and diagnostic messages through a high-speed serial backplane interface. This interface operates at 5 Mbps and supports up to 32 I/O modules per extended chassis. The module manages data synchronization and timing between the main rack and expansion chassis . It also handles bus arbitration to prevent data collisions during high-traffic periods . An onboard FIFO buffer stores up to 128 data frames for seamless data flow.

Installation and Addressing Configuration

The FC-IO-0002 mounts directly into the controller chassis and requires only a single slot . The module automatically detects the chassis ID using an onboard DIP switch configuration . This addressing mechanism prevents conflicts when multiple expansion chassis exist in the same system . A 50-pin ribbon cable connects the extender to the remote chassis. Moreover, the module features diagnostic LEDs for power, bus activity, and fault status indicators.
