  • Product Details

The GE IC670ALG240 accepts four analog current signals for Genius I/O systems. This module reads 4-20 mA inputs from transmitters and sensors. You will find it in process control and monitoring applications. It delivers 15-bit resolution for precise measurement accuracy. Therefore, this unit suits chemical, pharmaceutical, and water treatment facilities.

This module measures 140 mm in height and 60 mm in width. Its depth reaches 110 mm for panel or DIN rail mounting. The unit weighs approximately 0.35 kilograms. It contains one 15-bit ADC with four input channels. Three isolation barriers separate field circuits from the backplane. Additionally, you get six status LEDs on the front panel.

Internal Architecture and Energy Storage

The GE IC670ALG240 stores minimal energy in its input filter circuits. Small electrolytic capacitors hold approximately 180 microfarads total. A 15-bit successive approximation ADC converts each analog value. This ADC provides 32,768 discrete steps across the 4-20 mA range. Three optical isolators protect the backplane from field transients. Each channel has its own programmable gain amplifier. The module automatically linearizes the 4-20 mA signal. You get built-in open wire detection for every channel.

Connection Interfaces and Signal Wiring

You will find a 10-pin removable terminal block on the bottom. This block accepts four current loop pairs plus a common return. Connect the transmitter positive wire to the channel terminal. Then, connect the transmitter negative wire to the common return. Use shielded twisted-pair cable for all analog signals. Connect the shield drain wire to the ground terminal only. The GE IC670ALG240 requires an external 24 VDC loop supply. Each channel consumes the loop current directly from the transmitter. Six green LEDs indicate active channels and normal operation.

Configuration and Installation Steps

You mount this module onto a standard DIN rail or panel. First, clip the top edge onto the 35 mm DIN rail. Then, press the bottom downward until it locks securely. Connect all field wiring before applying power to the system. The GE IC670ALG240 automatically scales 4-20 mA to engineering units. Use the Genius configuration software to set scaling parameters. Assign a unique node address using the rotary switches. The module draws 150 mA from the +5 VDC backplane supply. Always verify that the loop supply provides 24 VDC nominally. Test each channel with a current calibrator before commissioning.
