This interface module converts 20 mA TTY signals to RS-232 levels. You can connect a modern laptop directly to your old S5 CPU. The opto-isolated design provides 2500 V AC of electrical isolation.
A 47 µF capacitor stabilizes the power supply during signal transitions. The data rate auto-detects from 300 baud up to 9.6 kbaud. Consequently, you do not need manual baud rate switches.
You will find two status LEDs on the top panel. The green LED indicates power, while the yellow LED blinks during data transfer. The TTY port accepts distances up to 1000 meters for remote programming.
Installation and Usage
Siemens 6ES5301-3AB12 mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail near your S5 rack. Connect the TTY cable to the CPU programming port firmly. Use a standard RS-232 cable to reach your PC or programmer.
